At Splash Dive Center we offer Night snorkelling as it is a great way to experience a very different marine world than the one we see during the day on the Belize Barrier reef. At night, many of the critters that were hiding during the day come out to play, mate, explore and feed, especially on the sites near Placencia, which is rich in aquatic life. Typical sightings include lobster, octopus, squid, nudibranches, swimming eels, Spanish dancers, toad fishes, frog fishes, sea slugs, blue tang, tarpon, barracuda, sharks, rays and lots of colourful reef fish, some of them sound asleep. Coral polyps open and under light you can see their true brilliant colors. Armed with a dive light, snorkelers can see Caribbean night life at its best!
To get the most excitement from your diving, or snorkelling vacation, we offer these night trips and adventure tours and excursions to Laughing Bird Caye on the Belize Barrier reef near Placencia. Laughing Bird Caye is the most popular inner reef dive destination. It is a National Marine Park, World Heritage Site and has an abundance and variety of coral habitats and marine life for snorkelers to explore.
Our night snorkelling trips leave Placencia at 4:00 pm and arrive at Laughing Bird Caye 30 to 40 minutes later (unless we spot dolphins in which case we arrive at this beautiful caye a little later). We spend about an hour on the caye to explore the beaches and enjoy the sunset. As it gets dark, we review safety and night snorkel procedures and then your guide will take you on a tour of the abundant and varied coral and to meet the critters. We snorkel from the beach for about an hour and then back to the beach and the boat. Arrival time back at Placencia is at about 8:00 or 8:30 pm.
These trips have no minimum age, as long as participants are in good health and comfortable in the water, and are ideal for all the family to enjoy their vacation together.
The cost of these trips is $80 per person inclusive of a licensed Belize guide.
