Nim Li Punit is one of the two popular Maya sites in Southern Belize. This 121 acres of Maya history is regarded as a ceremonial center consisting of two plazas. Making this site unique of all the other Maya sites is the vast concentration of stelea that is found in this area.

Nim Li Punit is located just over an hour drive south bound on the picturesque Southern highway from Placencia. Situated just off the southern highway on the foothills of the Maya Mountains, Nim Li Punit is certainly a hidden treasure.

This site has a total of twenty six stelae which depict various maya head dresses. As you arrive in the entrance area, you will be able to appreciate replicas of some of the bigger stelae found. Take the opportunity to visit the ‘Visitor Center’ where you will find an abundance of exclusive artifacts and a host of information about the Mayas.

Nim Li Punit in Maya Kekchi means “The Big Hat”. This small site located in the Toledo District, has 3 plaza areas and a ballcourt. As you walk in the footsteps of the ancient maya, you will experience what it was like to live in that era. Despite the evidence of the Maya civivlization that exist today, and their people that continue to live in the area; the history of the ancient Maya still remains a mystery for archeologist, who continue to dig deep into the past.
